Julia Butterfly Hill is an environmental activist and a lady who got famous in the late 1990s for spending two years in a 200-foot California redwood tree in order to attract public attention to the destructive effects of cutting trees. She was born in 1974 Missouri and was raised by her parents alongside her two brothers. Most of her childhood was spent in quite harsh conditions, in the environment close to camping. As a child, she traveled a lot with her family and got extremely involved in various social issues as a teenager. She would start to advocate for the rights of people and animals as a high school student. In 1997, she began to take part in a project that involved her living in the tree, and it took her 2 years to complete the project. After that, she wrote a book based on her experiences, and continued as a leader of various social protests like tax redirection project and others. In the mid 2010s she launched her social media networking accounts which are now the platform for promoting her ideas. As of the early 2025, Julia Butterfly Hill's page on Instagram is followed by over 100 thousand people.
