Nancy Kerrigan is a celebrated American figure skater whose career reached its peak in the 1990s, when she earned several Olympic medals. She was born in 1969 in Stoneham, Massachusetts, as the only daughter in a family with two brothers. While her brothers played ice hockey, Nancy began figure skating lessons at the age of six. By the late 1980s she had won the U.S. Junior Figure Skating Championship, and in 1991 she gained international fame with a bronze medal at the World Championships. The following year she added another bronze at the Winter Olympics, confirming her rising star status.

Despite suffering an attack in 1994 that shocked the sports world, Nancy returned to compete at the Winter Olympics that year, winning silver.
