Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost in 1955 in Illinois, is the first American-born Pope of the Catholic Church. He grew up in Chicago with his two older brothers, raised by a devoted mother of Creole descent who worked as a librarian, and a father who was a school superintendent. From an early age, Robert showed a deep interest in faith, learning, and helping others.

After graduating from Villanova University, he joined the Order of Saint Augustine and became a reverend at 27. He spent much of his early career in Peru, serving as a parish priest, educator, and seminary teacher. In 2001, he was appointed prior general of the Augustinian Order, later returning to Peru as Bishop of Chiclayo in 2015.
