How old is Pope Leo XIV?

Pope Leo XIV (Robert Francis Prevost) is the bishop of Rome and the first Pope of the Catholic Church who has American origins. He was born in 1955 in Illinois and raised in Chicago alongside his two elder brothers by his mum of Creole descent who was a librarian and his father who worked as a superintendent of some Chicago schools. In his early 20s, after graduating from the Villanova University, Prevost joined the Order of Saint Augustine, and then received the title of a reverent when he was 27. Since the mid 1980s till the late 1990s he worked as a part of Augustinian mission in Peru and assumed the role of a parish priest, educator, administrator, and seminary teacher. In 2001 he was granted the title of prior general of the Order of Saint Augustine, but in the mid 2010s Prevost decided to go back to Peru and in 2015 became the Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Chiclayo. He occupied that position until 2023 when he traveled to Europe and was granted the title of a cardinal by the late Pope Francis. Until his becoming the sovereign of the Vatican City in May 2025, he served as the prefect of the Decastery for Bishops and the president of the Pontifical Commission in Latin America. Pope Leo XIV chose his papal name after another prominent leader of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIII, whose contribution in labor rights and enlightenment is considered to be outstanding.
