Born in 1967 in Hawaii, to the family of a confectionery businessman, she spent her childhood in different parts of the world, including Hawaii and Japan. Horseback riding was her passion when she was a young teenager, but later of Lauren decided to focus on acting and also was a member of a drill team. She started her professional career as a theater actress in the late 1980s in Michigan. Her debut as a TV actress took place in the mid 1990s when she began appearing in a TV series Caroline in the City. Later on she played one of the main roles in a series Townies as well as starred in such series as Conrad Bloom and News Radio. Finally, in 2000 she received as invitation to join the cast of Gilmore Girls and the role of Lorelai Gilmore made her famous around the world. A decade later she landed one of the main roles in a series Parenthood, and also appeared in many shows related to Gilmore Girls.
