Sofia Costanza Brigida Villani Scicolone is a famous actress, a beautiful woman, a singer, and a social activist. She was born in 1934 to a poor family, in Rome. The girl was very beautiful, tall and slim, and when she was 14 years old she won a small local beauty contest. It was a start of her modeling career, which continued when Sofia moved to Rome and in 1950 won the title of Miss Elegance in the country's Beauty Queen contest. Soon she got married to an Italian director, who started filming his wife in his small movies. During the 1950s he continued taking parts in various movies, mainly romantic, like Napoleon Carousel, The Gold of Naples, The Black Orchid, Scandal in Sorento, etc. The peak of her career was in the early 60s when such movies as The Millionaires, El Cid, Madame, Five Minutes to Midnight, Yesterday, Today And Tomorrow, and Marriage Italian Style were released. She shared the filming spot with Marcello Mastroianni, Omar Sharif and other cinema legends. The 1970s were marked by high popularity of Sofia in Hollywood, where she played in plenty of movies together with Clark Gable, Anthony Quinn, Paul Newman, Peter Sellers, and so on. Since the early 1980s, Sophia Loren has not been appearing in the movies. She is busy rather writing her books, taking parts in numerous social events, and modeling. She was married to Carlo Ponti, a movie director, for over 40 years (until his death), and she has 2 sons.
