Born in 1973 in Missouri, he grew up in a Muslim family and spent some part if his childhood in Senegal. He started getting interested in music and improvising when he was a teenager and lived with his brother in Georgia. He started recording his first hits and released his first album in the early 2000s. His singles of those times titled "Lonely" and "Locked Up" brought his fame. In the mid 2000s Akon released his second studio album which reached the highest lines in the charts as it included two collaborations with such stars as Eminem and Snoop Dogg. The hits brought Akon his first Grammy nominations.
