An English singer, songwriter, guitarist, and musician, Robert Smith is the co-founder, lead vocalist, principal songwriter, and only continuous member of the influential rock band The Cure. His real name is Robert James Smith. He was born in Blackpool in 1959 and raised in Crawley, West Sussex, where he started to love music and began learning to play guitar as a child. He co-founded the group that would become The Cure in 1976, one of the most important bands to come out of the post-punk era.

Smith went on to international success with The Cure in the 1980s and 1990s, with acclaimed albums including Three Imaginary Boys, Seventeen Seconds, The Head on the Door, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Disintegration and Wish. The band became known for hit songs including “Just Like Heaven”, “Lovesong”, “Pictures of You” and “Friday I’m in Love”.
