One of the most famous and successful tennis players who won virtually every important women's Grand Slam tournament including Wimbledon and Australian Open, Serena Williams was born in 1981 in Michigan, and she was the youngest of the 5 girls in the family (one of her sisters is also a famous tennis player, Venus Williams). In order to provide the girls with proper tennis training, the parents moved to LA, where it was possible to attend the country's best tennis courses. However, most of the time the father, Richard Williams, was coaching Venus and Serena. There were plenty of junior championships and events that girls have took part in, and they demonstrated great success and passion for this sport. When Serena was 18 years old, she received her first serious professional award by winning the 1999 US Open. In 2002 she managed to become the No 1 tennis player among women, and since then for many years Serena was ranked by Women's Tennis Association as the first player on the planet. She holds a record by winning 6 Australia Open titles, which are considered to be among the most prestigious titles in the tennis world. In 2003 she suffered a serious knee injury. Serena has released a book, she is a certified fashion designer and is leading a very active social life, appearing on various TV projects or giving voice to cartoon characters like her own personification in the Simpsons. She dated one of her coaches, Patrick Mouratoglu, but later on, she got married to a businessman Alexis Ohanian. In 2017 the couple welcomed a daughter.
