Shane MacGowan was a talented Irish singer and a songwriter known as the frontman of a Celtic punk band The Pogues as well as a number of his collaborative songs recorded with such stars as Nick Cave, Sinead O'Connor, etc. He was born in 1957 in Kent but spent his early childhood in Ireland. As a child, he loved literature and took part in a number of literature contests. When he was 17 he joined a punk band and started trying himself a songwriter. Later on together with his friends he established The Pogues and created a special style of Irish or Celtic punk which included using traditional Irish instruments like cittern or tin whistle. The band recorded 7 studio albums on their early stage, and then later on some more of their live albums came out. The songs like "A Pair of Brown Eyes" or "Fairy-tale of New York" are among the most popular ones written by MacGowan for the band. In the late 2010s MacGowan officially left the band and continued a few of his solo projects promoting other singers. In the late 2023 Shane MacGowan passed away as a result of pneumonia, at the age of 65.
