She was born in 1969 in Massachusetts as the youngest of six children. Her childhood was difficult, as she lost her mother at the age of five, and growing up she had to work hard while pursuing her education.

Her modeling and acting career began in the mid-1990s after she met fashion photographer Andrew Rosenthal, who featured her in his photos.
