Daddy Yankee is a Puerto Rican rapper, singer, songwriter, and producer who is widely regarded now as one of the pioneers of reggaeton music. He was born Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez in 1977 and grew up in the Río Piedras district of San Juan, in a poor neighborhood. As a child he dreamed of becoming a professional baseball player and trained seriously for a promising career in sports. Sadly, that path ended after he was involved in an accident during a street shooting, and that tragic event led him to dedicate himself fully to music.

His debut album was released in 1995 but it didn't manage to help DY to draw some serious attention outside Puerto Rico.
