John Prine was an American musician and singer famous for his distinctive style in folk music, who became a victim of COVID-19 and lost his life as a result of the 2019-2020 coronavirus pandemic. Born in 1946 in Illinois, he grew up alongside his elder brother and started getting seriously interested in music in his early teen ages. He learned to play the guitar first and then started composing his songs which he, later on, started singing in various local open-air events and public gatherings in Chicago where he used to work as a mailman. During the 1970s Prine became a regular singer and live folk music performer in various clubs and on various stages in Chicago. For this decade he recorded his first six studio albums and started becoming popular around the country. For the next two decades, he recorded six more albums and received his first Grammy Award in the early 1990s. John Prine is considered one of the best folk musicians of the last 4 decades who contributed greatly to the so-called revival of folk music at the end of the 20th century.
