An American actor, Lance Barber is best known to the general public for portraying George Cooper Sr. on the hit sitcom Young Sheldon. He was born in 1973 in Battle Creek, Michigan, and began to demonstrate his natural talents for acting at age 7 after watching a production of Grease. He later performed at Pennfield High School and Kellogg Community College before moving into professional theater.

Barber spent five years performing with Chicago's famed Second City improvisational comedy troupe before moving to Los Angeles and building a television career. His first major role was as Paulie G. on HBO’s The Comeback, with Lisa Kudrow. He later played Bill Ponderosa on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia. He also appeared in Faking It, Black-ish, Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Leatherheads and Gangster Squad.

Barber was cast as George Cooper Sr., Sheldon’s father, on Young Sheldon, appearing in 139 episodes over the course of the show’s seven-season run, which began in 2017. He’d later reprise the character in Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage, giving fans another memorable connection to the Cooper family. Lance Barber is married to Aliza Barber and they have two kids.
