Macklemore is a rapper and songwriter from Seattle. Born Benjamin Hammond Haggerty in 1983, he grew up in a family of Irish origins, alongside his brother. Ben started demonstrating his interest in hip hop music when he was only 6 years old and received support from his family. In the late 1990s, he started writing his own songs and started rapping in small local hip hop related events. He started his career in about 2000 by taking the name Professor Macklemore and recording his first mixtape. In the mid-2000s he removed the word Professor from his nickname and recorded his first studio album The Language of My World which had a hit "Love Song". In 2006 Macklemore met Ryan Lewis who became his partner and long term collaborator as a band Macklemore and Ryan Lewis. Together, they released two studio albums and had a few very successful tours performing in front of their large number of fans. Their songs received very good critics and in 2014 the duo won 4 Grammy Awards at Hip Hop category. In 2017 Macklemore released his solo album titled Gemini and announced his intention to continue without Ryan. Haggerty is married and has 2 daughters.
