How old is Angela Merkel?

Angela Merkel is a famous political personality and a key figure in the political situation of Germany in the first two decades of the current century. Born Angela Kasner in 1954 in Hamburg, she spent her childhood in the eastern part of Germany which was in those times under occupation of the Soviet state. She had a typical childhood and after finishing high school she entered a university to study chemistry. After her graduation Angela started working in a lab and a career of an ordinary lab researcher had been waiting for her but in the late 1980s the revolution and the fall of the USSR took place. She was an active participant of the events and after the United Germany formation she became a member of the new Parliament. Merkel was a member of Women and Youth Affairs Committee and got close with the Chancellor of the times, Helmut Kohl. In 2005 by the Federal Election Angela Merkel was elected the Chancellor of Germany becoming the first woman in the country's history to take that position. A few years late she was also appointed as the President of European Council so she became one of the leaders of the EU political elite. On national level, Merkel implemented a large number of reforms and structural transformations of the country's economy and social life. She was married to her university sweetheart but later on remarried to a university professor. She has no children and is an avid football fan.
