A hardworking American actor, director, writer, and musician, Charlie McDermott rose to fame for portraying Axl Heck on the ABC sitcom The Middle. He was born in 1990, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, has had a true interest in filmmaking and acting since his middle school years, often creating his own short films. As a teen he relocated to Los Angeles to pursue a professional career in acting. McDermott first came to attention for his role as the troubled son of Melissa Leo’s character in the 2008 independent drama Frozen River.

His work earned him a Best Supporting Male nomination for an Independent Spirit Award. The following year he was cast as Axl Heck on The Middle, appearing throughout the nine-season run of the series alongside Patricia Heaton, Neil Flynn, Eden Sher and Atticus Shaffer.
