John Legend is a famous American R&B singer, songwriter, actor, and social activist. He was born John Stephens in 1978 in Ohio and grew up in a pretty large family, alongside his three siblings. His father was a musician and played on a jazz band, so John loved music and dreamed about a career as a singer from an early age. He used to take part in choir performances and took piano lessons. In the late 1990s, he started recording his first demos and in 2001 he was introduced to Kanye West which became a turning point in his life. Together with that talented musician, they created quite a lot of interesting music, and West was the one who came out with the name 'John Legend'. He also produced Legend's debut album which came out in 2004 and attracted public attention with its hits "Ordinary People" and "Number One". In the further years of the decade, Legend collaborated with plenty of other musicians like Jay Z. So far John Legend has released 6 studio albums and spent a lot of time performing on stage. He is a successful songwriter and winner of a few awards including the Academy Award and the Golden Globe Award for the music that he composed for the movie Selma. John Legend is married to Chrissy Tiegen, an American model, and the couple has 2 children.
