Melissa O'Neil is a Canadian actress of Chinese origins who is mostly known to the general public for her roles in such shows as iZombie, Dark Matter, or The Rookie, as well as the winner of an early season of Canadian Idol. She was born in 1988 in Calgary and grew up there alongside her family. As a teenager, Melissa was very sporty. She played rugby, basketball, and used to take part in some local musicals as an actress. When she was 15 years old, she joined auditions for Canadian Idol and managed to impress the judges with her voice and personal charisma. Soon she joined the top 32 and then the finals, and on September 14th, 2005, O'Neil became the winner of the 3rd season of the show. A year later she released her debut album which attracted a lot of public attention in Canada. In the late 2000s Melissa continued her career by appearing on stages of musical theaters and performing occasionally as a singer. In the middle of the next decade she joined the cast of a TV project This Life followed by her great performance in a TV musical Dark Matter.
