Rowan Atkinson is an iconic British comedy actor, screenwriter, and performer who has got worldwide recognition for creating and portraying the character Mr. Bean. He was born in 1955 in Consett, County Durham, into an Anglican family, and grew up alongside his two brothers. In the early 1970s, he studied Electrical Engineering at Oxford. He was a student there when he became actively involved in comedy and began writing and performing sketches.

Atkinson first rose to prominence with the radio programme The Atkinson People and the BBC television series Not the Nine O’Clock News, for which he won a BAFTA Award. He starred in Never Say Never Again alongside Sean Connery in 1982 and went on to a great lead role in the movie Dead on Time. He found international fame with the silent-style comedy series Mr. Bean, which was a global hit and led to several feature films.

Besides Mr. Bean, Atkinson is also recognized for playing Johnny English in the spy-comedy film series Johnny English and for his role as Edmund Blackadder in the historical sitcom Blackadder.
