Thomas Jefferson is an important political personality and a statesman, a devoted republican and a human right defender, a lawyer and a philosopher, who also served as the 3rd President of the United States of America and is known as one of the authors of the American Declaration of Independence. Born in April 1743 in Virginia and grew up in a very crowded family, alongside his nine siblings. After graduating from college Jefferson worked as a lawyer dreaming about becoming a prominent statesman and changing the country's political and administrative status. During the 1770s Thomas Jefferson was rather focused on establishing his family life, but after the American Revolution, he became one of the Congress Representatives from Virginia and took a very active part in writing the Declaration of Independence of the country. In the early 1790s, during the term of George Washington, Jefferson was the First Secretary of the State as well as one of the founders and creators of the Republican Party as a rival of the Federation Party. In 1801 Thomas Jefferson was elected the 3rd President of the US and served two full terms. The main achievements of Jefferson are considered to be the expansion of the country's area and some progressive reforms which took place during the times of the global enlightenment era. After retiring from his political career, Thomas Jefferson established the University of Virginia and remains one of the key political figures in the whole history of the USA.
