Barack Obama is a prominent American politician, a Democrat and the 44th President of the United States who served two terms, from 2009 till 2017. Born in 1961 in Hawaii, Obama spent some parts of his childhood in the continental US and in Indonesia. In 1983 he graduated from Columbia University with a degree in political science and in the late 1980s, he graduated from Harvard Law School and started working as an attorney and a teacher in Chicago University. From the late 1990s, he started his political career and became a member of the Illinois Senate, which in 2005 resulted in him advancing to being the National Senate member and a representative from Illinois. In January 2009 he was elected the 44th American President defeating John McCain and succeeding George W. Bush. Among his milestone steps as the President were tightening the budget control, giving more money from the budget to health care, stopping the military campaign in Iraq, and taking serious steps as to fighting against the terrorism, which resulted in killing Osama bin Laden and some other terrorists associated with Al Qaeda. During his second term, Obama worked on promoting stricter gun control laws, protecting the rights of minorities, terminating nuclear deals with Iran, implementing economic sanctions on Russia due to the military conflict in Eastern Ukraine, and restoring the relations between the US and Cuba. After leaving the Presidential office to Donald Trump, Barack Obama announced his retirement from politics. His personal influence on the country's development and its international image is huge, and he will always remain in the history of the US as the first African-American President of the country.
