DJ Premier is an experienced record producer, DJ, and hip-hop musician widely regarded as one of the greatest producers in rap history. His real name is Christopher Edward Martin. He was born in 1966 in Houston and later spent part of his youth in Brooklyn, New York. During his college years at Prairie View A&M University, he developed his DJ skills and became deeply involved in hip-hop culture.

He rose to fame as one half of the legendary hip-hop duo Gang Starr alongside rapper Guru.
