Dr. Seuss was a successful and famous children's author and cartoonist who wrote more than 60 books for children sold in over 600 million copies around the world. He was born Theodor Seuss Giesel in 1904 in Massachusetts and was raised by his parents of German origins in the city of Springfield. He graduated from Dartmouth College in 1925 and he started to write his first stories when he was a college student. He continued his education in Lincoln College and adopted the name of Dr. Seuss. After finishing college he began to work as an illustrator and continued to write new and new stories. His first book titled And to Think That I Saw It on Mulberry Street came out in 1937 and had some moderate success. During the World War II Giesel had a small break in his work, and he resumed active writing in the late 1940s. During the 4 decades of his career as a children's author he published over 40 books, with If I Ran the Zoo (1950), How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1957), The Cat In the Hat (1957), Green Eggs and Ham (1960), One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish (1960), The Butter Battle Book (1984), and many others. For his contribution in children's literature Dr. Seuss received a number of awards like two Primetime Emmy Awards and so on. He passed away in 1991 in San Diego, at the age of 87.
